Fancy being a Clopton Parish Councillor?
Do you care about the village? Are you interested in enhancing our local community? If so you could make a great local councillor.
Clopton Parish Council has vacancies for Councillors, so why not be one of them? The 4 year term of the present Council will expire sometime after the next meeting on 20 March 2019, at which point all of the existing Councillors must stand down. We understand that a number of them may not be seeking to be re-appointed for a further term. In such an event, unless new people come forward, the Council may not be able to continue to function independently.
Councillors are the champions of their community and give residents a voice on the decisions the council makes. Becoming a councillor will allow you to make a real difference in your community by engaging with residents, local groups and businesses to find out their needs; making decisions on which services and projects the council should take forward; and getting involved locally to ensure the services are meeting your community’s needs.
Could you stand as councillor? Probably as there are only a few rules to apply.
The main ones are you must be:
• A British citizen, or a citizen of the Commonwealth, or the European Union
• 18 years of age or older
• Be an elector of the local council; or in the past 12 months occupied land or other premises in the area the local council serves (as owner or tenant); or work in the area local council serves (as your principal or only place of work); or live within three miles of the local council boundary
More detailed information on eligibility and about the position can be sent to anyone that is interested in joining the council just email the Parish Clerk: cloptonpc@gmail.com
