Clopton is a widely spaced village comprised mainly of farmland, around 140 residential homes and small businesses. The arrangement of Clopton's roads means there is no village centre common to all houses. There is a very good village hall with playing field in the village, which gets plenty of bookings (see Village hall and What's On) but, for shops and a pub, residents have to go slightly further afield.

Refuse Collection. SCDC provide three wheeled bins per household. The all-grey bin is for general (non-recyclable) household refuse and is collected every second week. The grey bin with the blue lid is for recyclable household refuse (except glass) and the all-brown bin is for garden and food waste. These two bins are emptied on the alternate week to the grey bin. Glass can be recycled at the bins in the village hall carpark. A calendar of refuse collection dates is delivered to each household annually.
